NaNoWriMo Update; Week 1 // Emile

Hello everyone,

I do realise that I didn't make a post announcing that I was taking part in NaNoWriMo, and for that I apologise. I started writing one but unfortunately it never made its way out onto the internet. Just a brief explanation, I am writing a novel with A from ABook Philosophy. She is an absolutely amazing writer and all round fabulous person (I might be slightly biased) so please go and have a look at her blog. Her posts are very funny!

We are currently on 9002 words, so 1000 behind :/ I'm going to continue writing after I finish this post to try and boost our word count to where it should be. I cannot even begin to describe how much I am enjoying writing. I never really took myself as the type, despite being an avid reader. This has really encouraged me to have faith in my writing skills. Here is an excerpt from one of our chapters that I wrote:

“You know I tried to take a picture of the fog once, but I mist,” he quipped. Her expression didn’t change. “You know because of the homophone, missed and mist, like water vapour. D’ya get it?” He asked, looking at her hopefully. She still didn’t say anything.

“Well then we’ll start at the beginning. Hello, I’m Elliot, I’m 21 years old, my birthday is December 7th, my favourite colour is sort of leafy green, I really don’t like tomatoes at all, and I’m currently thinking about why you’re not saying anything.”

He looked at her hopefully.

“You’re an asshole.” She somehow managed to say it without moving her facial features, except now she looked less curious and more unimpressed. She was obviously very certain that her comment was true though; her eyebrows were deeply set into the bored expression.

“Come on! That’s a bit harsh. Tell me something about you! What’s your favourite colour? Did I mention that mine is leafy green?”

“Well then, leaf me alone,” she said in a monotone.

The End,

OMG; Days 8 and 9 // Emile

Hello everyone,

I met Sarah J. Maas today.
I met Sarah J. Maas today.
I met Sarah J. Maas today.
I met Sarah J. Maas today!!!

I cannot believe it at all! I am so happy but still slightly in shock. She was so completely lovely and sweet she still signed our books even with a hurt wrist (get well soon!). I would just like to say, for the entire fandom, that I have heard in person that Fleetfoot will survive. The worrying part of that is that Sarah's exact words were "Fleetfoot is the only guaranteed survivor". That means that there's a lot of death on the cards. Ooh dear. She was in conversation with Lucy Saxon and they had an utterly hilarious conversation about hot guys and being weird and Throne of Glass. All things that I like. I basically wanted to tell you about my experience and that Sarah is as lovely and sweet and funny as I imagined. Here is my lovely signed book:

Hello everyone,

I just got back from a rehearsal and I need to do my English homework but I don't really get it so I'm putting it off. All weekend, I have wasted my time away on tumblr and Stranger Things.
omg stranger things is my life ahhhhh!

Anyway, I am currently reading...

Library of Souls
(I'm on page 70ish because I haven't read much of it this week).

This Book Is Gay
(I'm around page 40 and I'm loving it).

I hope you're enjoying Emile's PEDO ;-)
Happy Reading!

My favourite things to do on Friday night; Day 7 // Emile

Hello everyone,

here are my favourite things to do to relax on a Friday night, because Friday nights aren't just for partying, they're also for me-time.

1. Read! (duh)
2. Watch an episode of whatever I'm currently into (right now it's      ITV's Victoria)
3. Just lie in bed and listen to music.
4. Draw or write something.
5. Go to sleep early to see how much sleeping I can possibly get done in one night and catch up from the awfully sleep deprived week I've had.

What do you like to do?
The End,

Happy National Poetry Day; Days 5 and 6 // Emile

Princess, princess, where are you?
Eyes rimmed with gold and set in blue,
Saved from death by an old queen new,
Princess, princess, where are you?

Princess, princess, floating downstream,
Too weak, too tired, to swim or scream,
Discovered by a killer king plotting a scheme,
Princess, princess, floating downstream.

Princess, princess, trained murderer now,
Honed by your king into a maelstrom of power,
The princess is dead, you're not sure how,
Killer, killer, I am you now.

Killer, killer, your heart lives on,
He brought it out, but now he is gone,
Betrayed by your saviour, see what he's done,
Killer, killer, your heart must stay strong.

Slave, slave, barely alive,
Surely you'll perish by the grim reaper's scythe,
No-one listens or hears your cries,
Slave, slave, barely alive.

Lady, lady, pearl of the court,
A new king has summoned for you to be taught,
Play in his game until you are caught,
Lady, lady, flee from the court.

Ruler, monarch, you've had many names,
Princess, lady, killer, slave,
They have much power over you, you see,
Princess, lady, killer, queen.

In case you haven't realised (or haven't read the book), this is about Throne of Glass. This is the first draft. The idea for this came to me at 11pm last night, but at that point I was too tired to post. This is not the best poem I've written; it needs a lot of editing, although actually  I quite like it.

The End,

Tips for music theory exams; Days 3 and 4 // Emile

Hello everyone,

apologies for not posting yesterday, blogger was down so despite my efforts nothing went up. Don't fret though! The posts every day shall continue (as much as possible) for the entirety of this month. Today I will honour you with my tips for music theory exams. If you play an instrument, you probably will have done or will have to do a theory of music exam at some point. I am, by the way, not an expert on this. However, I am about to sit my grade 4 music theory exam, so I like to think that  I have gained some experience in my time. Here is my advice:

1. Definitely absolutely do not leave any of it to the last minute.

Make sure you know all of the content at least a month in advance, otherwise you will be stressing and scrambling trying desperately to learn the rest of the content in not enough time.

2. Do some past papers.

In my experience, these really help. They show you what you actually do know and what you need to revise and practise before your exam.

3. Learn your key signatures!

I think this is quite obvious, but I thought I'd better put it in her anyway.

4. Use flashcards/ Quizlet.

You are probably aware of how useful flashcards are for learning difficult details. What is even more useful is Quizlet (not sponsored by the way) which is an free online site where you can make flashcards and they have lots of different modes to help you learn the content. There is also an app which means that you can easily fit in some quick revision whenever you have a moment. I recommend it very much.

5. Use devices to learn difficult information.

For grade 3, I made up a song to the tune of "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid to help me remember my key signatures and it worked! Acronyms, mnemonics, little rhymes or songs can be incredibly useful when your stuck in the exam room.

I hope these tips are useful! Let me know what you like to do to study for any exam.
The End,

Favourites and Sundays; Day 2 // Emile

Hello everyone,

How's your Sunday been? Mine's actually been better than it usually is. I went swimming then on a dog walk with my friends (I don't have a dog) which sounds boring but it's the little things in life. I also did some washing up and tidying and emptying the dishwasher which sounds boring and is. Fun fact, a couple of years ago A and I started something called "Make Sundays Fun" which is pretty self explanatory. Actually I think I might have told you guys about it before but what it was is that we would get together and do something every Sunday to try and make Sundays a bit more interesting because if I'm not careful half of my weekend is taken up by washing and dishes etc. That's my challenge to you: go out and do something! Even if you just go for a little walk. If you died tomorrow, you wouldn't want your last day on Earth to be spent just doing dishes! (I'm not advocating living like a slob, do your dishes. Just do them quickly and then go and do something fun!). So yeah I've had a good day and then I came home and did homework. And I'm sure you're now bored of hearing about my obviously incredibly interesting life. I'll move on.

I've been really loving listening to Dodie Clark's music at the moment. She makes videos and YouTube and is a musician and an artist and an incredibly talented person. So if you're looking for something the listen to I recommend her! Here is a link to her "main" channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKVfKr96Ifr3Dnhb6mhDAdw And her vlog channel:https://www.youtube.com/user/doddlevloggle .

Here are some of Dodie's songs to get you started:

P.S. I found all these images on google images. They don't belong to me.
P.P.S. Dodie also does great covers :)
P.P.P.S. I'm sorry if the images have come up weird because try as I might they look fine on the draft and as soon as I publish them blogger jumbles them up.

On the topic of favourites, my favourite food at the moment is porridge. Definitely. I eat it every morning for breakfast with lots of yummy toppings. The best combinations that I have discovered so far are apple and cinnamon, peach and coconut, and raisin and honey. I have also really enjoyed reading Teddy/Victoire fan fiction. So yeah.

This post hasn't really been about anything in particular, but I need these kinds of posts to get into the swing of it; to get my creative juices flowing as some like to say. I hope you can persevere with them!

Happy October pals!
I am actually getting in the christmas spirit. I know that in some people's opinions, this is way to early but I love christmas so for me it starts in September ;-)
also...can I just mention how blooming brilliant History GCSE is...and also how much I regret choosing Spanish ;-0

This is the first Currently Reading I've done in a while so enjoy it!

Welcome! And look after yourself // Day 1

Hello everyone,

welcome to day one of whatever you would like to call this. I know I'm posting pretty far through the day but at least I'm posting. Honestly, I'm lacking a bit of inspiration, however given as I'm using this weekend to basically recover from my life in the past few the weeks, let me take this opportunity to remind you that you should look after yourself. You cannot run nonstop through life without ever taking a proper break and recharging yourself, our bodies are not invincible, and neither are our minds. Stress really can take its toll on you. Occasionally, switch off and spend a little time doing something purely because you enjoy it, not because you have to. Here are some things that I like to do to unwind, to inspire your own de-stress sesh (short for 'session'. Geddit?).

1. Read! This is a book blog...
2. Take a bath.
3. Draw.
4. Play an instrument, not for an exam or anything; just for fun.
5. Have a little dance.
6. Write a letter to yourself, or a friend.
7. Write something; it can be anything your heart desires.
8. Paint your nails.
9. Have a cup of tea and a biscuit.
10. Do some stretching/ yoga.
11. Go to bed early and have a nice long sleep.

Make sure you look after yourself. You deserve it :)
The End,

Hello! // Maud

Hello y'all,

How have you all been? I finally got a new computer so now I can write again. WHOOP!
I have been doing okay. GCSEs have started for Emile and I so we are awfully busy and it is stressful to say the least (especially with all my out of school things). But I'm getting through.
Right now I have around 7 pieces of homework (2 due tomorrow) and I really need to get on with it.
I saw that Emile had posted and thought I should do the same.

I just got back from seeing Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children in the cinema :-)
I wasn't nearly as good as the book but the end was so funny and it was different to the end of the first book. Yes, it wasn't the best film I've ever seen but it was definitely a good one.

On October the 13th, my friend Harriet and I are going to an event at Waterstones in London to see Lucy Sutcliffe, Lisa Williamson and Non-Pratt speak about 'Finding Yourself'. Im super excited and am really happy we managed to get tickets. Our favourite youtubers (Saskia and Lily) are also going so we will hopefully bump into them.

I haven't read in what feels like months. I have had no time to do anything (or thats what it feels like anyway). I am reading Asking For It by Louise O'Neill but I can't even really remember whats happening so I think I'm going to start reading Library Of Souls and make sure that I make time to read. I am trying to start thinking about myself more and hoping to start living happier.
Remember, your health is more important than grades.

QOTD: What is your favourite subject at school?
AOTD: History or Drama :-)

Happy Living,

It's Been A While // Emile

Hello everyone,

It's been a while. I'm not even going to apologise because every time I leave for a while I apologise profusely, and then I do it again. What can I say? I still haven't published my YALC experience or my Empire of Storms review. They've both been written as well. This is how bad I am. But even though I said I won't apologise I'll at least say I'm sorry once. I'm sorry.

I feel like blogging, but I'm not really sure what to write at the moment. I haven't read anything seen Empire of Storms, aka since the day my heart was shattered by Sarah J. Maas forever. And speaking of Sarah J. Maas I am going to meet her! I am so excited!!! I don't even know what I'll say. How about: "Hi, I love you, you've broken my heart.". Nah that doesn't sound appropriate given that she doesn't know who I am. Shall I bring her a gift? How about a letter, yes I'll write her a letter. And do some art or something to show her how much I appreciate her writing. That's appropriate. Sure. Got it.

Anyway, to rekindle my creative blogging flame I though I should do a post every day for a month. Since it's almost October it would be a 'post everyday in October'. The unfortunate thing is that the abbreviated form of that is 'PEDO'. And that's not a great name. How about 'write everyday in October'? No that makes 'WEDO'. I can't call it that. It can go without a name for a bit. Anyway, I will be trying to post everyday for the month of October. It may not be book related, but at least it's something, and I have lots of creativity to vent somewhere.

See you on 1st October!

Life Update // Maud

Hello everyone!

I have been gone for a few weeks and I'm not going to say I'm sorry because I really needed the break. My head is in a much better place than it was a few weeks ago.
To be honest, BEDIA made me start to really dislike blogging. I felt like all the content was really horrible and rushed. I am happy that I ended it when I did because I want to really put effort into my posts.

I have quite a few things happening right now. The main reason I stopped writing in August was because my great great aunt died and I went to the funeral and everything was a big kerfuffle. The following week I went to Norfolk and we had little to no wifi (However that turned out to be a very good thing as in the week away (in the space of 2 days) I read It Ends With Us, It by Alexa Chung and Girl Hearts Girl by Lucy Sutcliffe. They are all great books and I totally recommend).
Since getting back, I auditioned for a remake of Cabaret with a activist group called LGBTQ+ Against Islamophobia. The audition went really well and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.

I  going back to school on Wednesday. I am certainly not looking forward to it but lots of exiting things are happening so I suppose it's not the worst. I am going to write a few posts in preparation for the school year but I am going to try to manage my busy schedule lots better.

Thankyou for your patience,

What I Would Like to See in Empire Of Storms // Emile

*WARNING. Do not read this post if you have not read the Throne of Glass series up to date. You read at your own risk of spoilers.

Hello everyone,

the release date of Empire of Storms, the fifth Throne of Glass book is creeping closer and closer and I am so excited! Before I begin though I just want to say I’ve seen a lot on Instagram about people spoiling the book, sending hate mail to Sarah J. Maas, and even going as far as death threats. That is disgusting. I can’t believe anyone would dare be so rude and horrible. She has the right to put whatever she wants in her books. If nothing intense happened, they would be no good! It is not acceptable to harass someone simply because you do not agree with what happened in their story. Sarah J. Maas is just one person, she cannot cater to the wants of all of her readers. Show her some respect.

Now that that’s out of the way, here are some things I would like to see in Empire of Storms:

- Manon and Aelin meeting again.
- Rowaelin ;)
- Lysandra’s shapeshifting powers coming into play.

- Seeing more of Terrassen (I hope I spelt that right).
- Perhaps some Manorian?
- An Elide/ Aelin reunion.
- Asterin being happy again.
- The witches discovering more of their humanity/ rebellion against Mother Blackbeak
- Elide finding out more about her Blackbeak heritage.
- Aedion and Gavriel meeting for the first time.
- Aelin’s court coming together.
- Old court/ new court arguments.
- Rebuilding Terrassen from the bottom.
- Chaol meeting the healer girl I can’t remember the name of from The Assassin and the Healer at the Torre Cesme. {turns out she's called Irene Towers}
- Duke Perrington having his butt kicked (perhaps literally)
- Consequences of magic being free.
- Aelin really growing into being queen.
- Aedion being happy.
- Maybe some Aedion/Lysandra.

This is all I can think of off the top of my head right now, but whatever Sarah J. Maas writes I will love it.

The End,

Quitting Something You Love // Emile

Hello everyone,

I hope that you are well, and that you are enjoying your summer. I only have one week left *sobs*. Actually though it will be nice to see all my friends and get back into school. It's been so long since I've really had to use my brain that I have to think about basic things an unusual amount. Anyway I'm writing this blog post because I learnt something yesterday which is probably obvious to many but for me it feels like it will be something that stays with me, if that makes sense.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to stop running. I've obviously done something to greatly anger the gods because it turns out all this time I've been running it's been damaging my hips and my knees and my feet and all these things which are rather important. I have flat feet, so the arches of my feet are very low, I hardly have any. This means that my legs turn inwards right up to the hip, and my pelvis tilts forwards and basically running has messed up my body. So I have to stop to prevent further damage. The things is, over the past two yeas, running has become a big part of my life. I have put literal blood sweat and tears into where I am today. I'm not brilliant, by any stretch of the imagination. You will not see me at Tokyo 2020. But I was brilliant compared to where I started.

Something else I will have to come to terms with is that I am not built to run. I have broad shoulders, wide hips, big thighs and short legs. No, I don't actually look like a marshmallow and I am not fat, but I'm not built skinny either. I always thought that despite everything against me that if I worked hard enough I could get there. Sadly, what I have to face is that some things are just out of your control. I am extremely opposed to that. My determination is something that I am proud of. I have this idea that I can do absolutely anything if I work for it. Believe me, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. This attitude has taken me many places, and helped me achieve a lot. I just need to face that I am not made to run, so I have to stop.

The problem is that running is like part of my identity. It's something I do. What will I be without running? I have a hole in my life now that I need to fill. What should I fill it with? It will have to be a sport, because running is around 50% of my exercise. It's been recommended to me that I try archery. I know I'm good at shooting (which is slightly worrying. It's a slightly strange natural talent to have). Maybe I should cycle. I like cycling. Or swim. I like swimming. But swimming is less accessible for me. What do I do?

To get to the point, I'm writing this because it's difficult to give up something you love because your body can't handle it. So many other people can run fine, but it's destroying my hips. It almost makes my body feel inadequate. For now, I'm giving yoga a shot because I enjoying and I want to test my strength and see how far I can go with it. Also there are lots of great guided yoga sessions on YouTube. My favourite channels are Yoga by Candace and Yoga with Adriene.

If you have any suggestions or ideas, or a story of your own to share please leave a comment because I could not find any other stories on the internet about people giving up running because they had to. They were all about people who just fell out of it because they were feeling lazy.

My grandfather said "there is no point bashing your nose against the wall until it bleeds. Find something that works with what you've got."

The End,

Isla and the Happily Ever After Review // Emile

*Another post that I wrote I while ago, but I wouldn't want to waste it.

Hello everyone,

I have written so many reviews in the past few days. I hope you like reviews! If you don't, no worries, I'm going to be photo-logging the London Young Adult Literature Convention this weekend, so you can look forward to that. For now though, here's a review of Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins. I have reviews Anna and the French Kiss, but not Lola and the Boy Next Door. I don't why, it just didn't happen. Sorry.

.
"Hopeless romantic Isla has had a crush on brooding artist Josh since their first year at the School of America in Paris. And, after a chance encounter in Manhattan over the summer break, romance might be closer than Isla imagined. But as they begin their senior year back in France, Isla and Josh are forced to face uncertainty about their futures, and the very real possibility of being apart."

Out of this series, Anna was my favourite, then Isla and finally Lola. I wouldn't label any of the books as "best" or "worst" though. Don't let yourself be fooled by the titles. Admittedly, they are super gooey cheesy romances. But they are fantastic! I love them so much. The couples are so perfect, and they fall in love in the most perfect romantic way. I don't have much, or any, experience with romance, but I think I have very high expectations now. No pressure, my first boyfriend.

These are the perfect books for anyone in a reading slump, or anyone with an incredible soft spot (like myself). I don't think there is honestly that much to say. I love the Parisian setting, very romantic. That's I like Lola the least because it's mostly set in America. I'm hoping if I ever move to France I will find all the cute boys that seem to exist there but not here. Sorry Britain. Also French is a lovely language.

That's really all I have to say about it I'm afraid.

The End,

Currently Reading // Maud; BEDIA DAY 14

Hey yo,

This is my currently reading day! So that is what I'll do :-)

The thing with currently reading posts is that I'm not too sure what to write apart from the obvious. And that is like 2 sentences long. So they always turn into life updates aswell. But I don't have anything to update you on. So this post is going to be super short!

I am around 50 pages into It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. I haven't read it for a few days but I know that it's written really well and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Yay!

Actually, I am going to a dance week long workshop this week so that should be fun. I'm not sure if I'll get much time to write though. So if I don't, forgive me🙏🏻
Happy Reading (and in my case, dancing),

I'm so bad at this and I like charity shops // Maud; BEDIA DAY 13

HEYA,
I just got back from my friend's house and it's around 11o'clock. Actually, that's a lie. I got back at around 10 and then sat in my bathroom listening to Lorde and drawing. I'm weird.
Em is in France so I don't think she's gonna be that active over the next few weeks. But, you guys have me and my short crappy posts ;-/

Today I'm going to do an overview of my recent purchases (thrifting and shopping on depop).
So, recently I have found much pleasure in shopping in Charity Shops. Like, seriously they're actully amazing.

(None of these are my pictures)
On Wednesday, I went round quickly to one shop to see if they had something I'd seen in the window last week to see if they still had it. They didn't but... I did find a striped croptop with long sleeves. I really liked it so i picked it up for around £3!

Then, the day after, I was with a few friends and we popped into a CS (not expecting anything) and I mananged to get an outfit worth £55 for £4 in really good condition! I got a pair of Topshop joni jeans for £3 and an American Apparel oversized t-shirt for £1!

I can't find an exact picture but this is close enough
Yesterday, after finding such good deals, I took my mum to all our local charity shops and I got so much stuff! Firstly, I picked up a REISS Navy and Blue t-shirt for £6.99 (Which is slightly pricey for CSs but it's for charity so OH WELLL) from Oxfam. (I can't find any pictures, SORRY!)
I next went to a Cancer Research Shop and picked up an Asos dress that is black and covered in white polka dots. It's not my normal go-to style but it was cute and cheap so I picked it up anyway.
At this shop, I also picked up a pair of lounging shorts that I'm actually wearing right now. They are originally from forever 21 and I got them for around £4. They are super cute and will be good for dance aswell.

After Cancer Research, we carried on and made our way to FARA children's charity shop. This is where I got my favourite purchase of the day...an A-Line Denim Skirt (from Asos). I love it so much and in the last shop we went to, I got a really cute t-shirt that goes really well with it (from M&S) (I can't find a photo).

I did really well this week and am really thankful to my parents and yeah! I hope you enjoyed another fail of a post.
Happy Buying,

A HUGE thankyou! // Maud; BEDIA DAY 12

Hello peeps,
This is going to be a quick, sad post but also a post that shows hope and is a sign that everything gets better.

So I wanted to say thankyou all. When I started this blog, I was in a bad place. I would cry myself to sleep pretty much every night. I wouldn't cooperate in school or in my dance lessons.
I wasn't suicidal but really didn't want to have to wake up and do the never ending days.
I was generally a shitty person to be around. I was in a bad place due to many things in my life that I don't want to recollect.

However, due to lots of things in my life that have gone right, I am sitting here writing this post. I am stronger (mentally and physically), happier, more determined to succeed, more confident in my body and am a much better person to be around.
YOU are one of those reasons.
Writing my feeling down helps more than i could have ever imagined. And, although I don't write my feelings directly down, just writing is therapeutic.

We are nearly to 3,000 views which I know isn't huge, but it's a step in the right direction so on this occasion, I am a very happy sm0l cute little toad.
(Oh and today I got a job!)
Happy Living,

Life Update// Maud; BEDIA DAY 11

Heyo peeps,
This is going to be a really quick post because I've been busy all day and this is the only chance I've had.  This is gonna be a short life update so you guys know what is going on in the next few weeks :-) (Tomorrow I might so a Thrifting/ Charity Shop haul).

Sooo...I'm going to a week long dance workshop so I will probably be writing shorter posts (if I don't get round to pre-writing them). I'm super excited because I haven't danced in weeks and I miss it so much. Also, we are doing choreography aswell which is one of my favourite parts of dance.  That's gonna be fun!
I'm not going on holiday this year (well, I don't think I am anyway) so I will have plenty of time after that.
When the school year starts, I'm going to be even more busy than I was last year! I may be stopping one of my dance lessons but I have applied for a job so I will hopefully be doing that (which means I get more money to spend on depop ;-)) and I also have DofE so I will be doing volunteering amd going to the gym for that too! It's also the first proper year of GCSE syllabuses so I'm not totally sure how I'm going to manage. But i'll try.

That's pretty much all that is going on in the next few weeks/months so I hope I'll be active enough but if I'm not then I'm truly sorry ;-(

Happy Reading/ Having a life,
