This is Life ; School and Studying Tips // Emile

Hola mis amigos!

Today I am coming to you with a different kind of blog post. Instead of a discussion I thought that today I could give you some advice.

I go to school. I'm assuming most of you do too. This means that there are tests, assessments, assignments, papers, essays, evaluations and so much work! Most of us like to study for these in order to get the best grades that we can. Therefore, today I am going to share with you my tips for studying and doing your best in school.

1. Do it now.
You may be thinking "What? Do what now?". Everything. Do you homework now. Take the dog for a walk now. Go and talk to that teacher you need to see but have been too lazy to. Go and do it now. (Well, after you've finished reading this blog post). That way you aren't worrying about it all night, it's over with. Get your homework done as soon as you can so that you have time for your hobbies and to relax later. We all know how much it sucks to be writing a history essay at 11:30 pm.

2. Write it down.
If you are in a lesson, and the teacher tells you something, and you think "I could write that down, but it's alright, I already know it and anyway I can't be bothered." WRITE IT DOWN. Even if you're pretty certain you know it make notes so that when you are studying you have the information available to you right there.

3. Make time to relax.
It makes such a big difference if you put time aside to relax and do something you enjoy. It doesn't necessarily have to be everyday, however set the time aside beforehand. Make sure everything is done so that you aren't worrying. Schedule a meeting with yourself. You cannot run forever and it is important to take breaks. That brings me on to the next tip.

4. When studying, take breaks.
I know that if I try and study for three hours straight I will get bored, hungry, distracted, and ultimately I won't get that much work done. Take regular breaks. Get up, go and get a drink, maybe a snack, go online, read, text your friends. Just make sure that you go back to studying and don't get distracted with your break.

5. Find out what type of learner you are.
Knowing the best way that you learn will make you a more efficient studier and help you learn more in the time that you have. I will explain how to find out what type of learner you are now.

Those are my basic tips for school. Now I am going to explain how to find out what type of learner you are. There are four types of learner.
Visual
Visual learners learn best by seeing something.
Auditory
Auditory learners learn best by hearing something.
Kinaesthetic
Kinaesthetic learners learn best by doing something.
Read/Write
As the name suggests, these types of learners learn best by reading and writing the information.

I you have a very photographic memory, and you find yourself remembering what a place looked like rather than what happened there you are probably a visual learner. If you learn song lyrics very quickly and remember what people have said well then you are probably an auditory learner. If you find you remember things best if you do them yourself you are probably a kinaesthetic learner, and if you remember things well that are written down, for example road signs, you are probably a read/write learner. You can be more than one type of learner. I find that I am a visual learner.

Now that you (hopefully) know what kind of learner you are, we are going to talk about how to maximise you learning the best way for you. If you are a visual learner draw pictures and use colour. Colour code your notes, or highlight important things. Definitely copy down diagrams. Another thing you can do is draw or write the information of post-it notes and pop them around your room or your house. I stick my Mandarin notes around the house and my parents don't mind at all. If you are an auditory learner, record yourself reading the information and listen to it back. Another thing you can do is write a song using the information as the lyrics. You could use a well known melody like Haooy Birthday or London Bridge is Falling Down or make up your own.  Record it and listen to it back, or if that's to cringey for you then just learn it and sing it in your head whenever you need to recall the information.

If you are a kinaesthetic learner it's a bit more difficult. Definitely take loads of notes because by writing you are doing something. If it is something that you an assign actions to (for example learning your French verbs) then assign actions and do them as you are saying the word. It should help you remember. If you are a read/write learner it's pretty self explanatory. Write the information down and read it out load to yourself. I find this even helps me and I'm not a read/write learner. You could also do this if you are an auditory learner.

I realise that this was a long blog post but I hopes these tips helped you in some way or another and I shall see you on Wednesday.
