The Name of the Wind Review // Emile

Bonjour everybody,

Recently, a couple of days ago in fact, I finished reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. As it's such a well known book in the world of YA fantasy, I thought it would make for an interesting review. So here we go.

The Name of the Wind is the life story of a world famous hero, murderer, arcanist and musician called Kvothe. However after all of his exciting exploits he disguised himself as an innkeeper called Kote in a humble village. One day, despite his best efforts to stay hidden, Kvothe is found by a scribe who wants to hear his life story. Eventually Kvothe agrees, and tells the scribe his tale...

Over all, I really enjoyed this book. It is quite long so it took me a while to read, which wasn't helped by the fact that when I got to bed I was so tired that I could only read five pages before my exhaustion took over. It is the first book in the Kingkiller Chronicles, which are a three books series. I have heard it described as "a book every fantasy lover needs to read" as well as "the cult of YA fantasy". I consider myself a fantasy novel enthusiast, therefore I decided that I had to read it. I would recommend it, although I don't think that it is mandatory for all fantasy lovers. I really liked reading from the main character's POV (point of view), and I was always excited to see what happened next. I found the relationships between characters incredibly interesting, also the setting of the story was cool to read about. I would love to go to The University! I would spend so much time in the Archives. I rate it 4/5 stars.

See you on Wednesday,

Now for the spoiler section. Do not open this if you don't want to be spoiled!

I freaked out when he found his parents dead. I felt so sorry for him and I didn't know what he was going to do. Then he spent all those months in the woods and I just wanted to hug him and say that everything will be alright even though I knew it wouldn't be.

I loved reading about Kvothe's life on the streets and his journey to The University, I got a little less interested half way through his time at The University but I got over that pretty quickly. I also loved how at the end of every chapter we got a little clue about what will happen in future, those were intense. Especially the one where he mentioned that Ambrose would try to kill him.

I'm not sure how I feel about his relationship with Denna. Honestly, she sometimes got on my nerves. The way she just disappears without telling Kvothe and he won't tell her his feelings for her. JUST TELL HER ALREADY.

I'm really looking forward to the next book, The Wise Man's Fear, but something tells me that the first one will always be my favourite.

Emile x
